CLUES IN THE QUILTS
You're invited to attend an interesting lecture from Daisy Bennett, May 13 @ 6:30pm.  The lecture covers the controversial topic of the underground railroad and clues that may have been sewn right into quilts using blocks as their "message".  The lecture will only last about 20 minutes, and then our beginner quilt class begins right after.  The lecture is open to everyone interested, and is FREE.  We will have extra Underground Railroad books available for purchase.

Workshops at the Woolen Willow

The Woolen Willow is pleased to announce a full first-quarter roster of exciting day-long workshops with nationally recognized teachers.  Each scheduled seminar will focus on different techniques in quilting, rug hooking, and more!  Most fees listed include everything from teacher fees, to lunch and class materials.  These all-inclusive workshops will be held off-site to allow for up to 25 participants, with plenty of elbow room!  Students need only bring their sewing machines and scissors, and fees must be paid in advance to hold their place.

May 3, Kim Diehl (Pocatello, Idaho):
Winter Berries Quilt
Kim has seen many of her original patterns published in national magazines, and she remains a frequent contributor to American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. Kim recently was invited to be a guest designer for Australian-based Homespun magazine, and her work will be featured in their February, 2008, issue. Kim has authored two best-selling books with Martingale & Company, "Simple Blessings" and "Simple Traditions." Her third book, "Simple Seasons," was just released in November of 2007, bringing together her passion for quiltmaking with her love of cooking and creating recipes.  Kim is currently at work on her fourth book of quilt designs, "Simple Comforts," due out in 2009.  We will be making the cover-quilt, “Winterberries”, from her “Simple Seasons” book.  If you don’t have the book yet, you can get your copy here.  We’ll have a sample of the quilt made up and on display in the shop soon.  It features her invisible machine appliqué method.   Bringing Kim in all the way from Idaho, the workshop fees will be $100 plus the cost of the quilt kit. The quilt kit is $80 and the book you will need is "Simple Seasons" for $24.95 unless you already have it.

March 8, Kindred Spirits (near Dayton, OH):

Kindred Spirits is returning this year, brining us an exclusive project that will include just about every fiber arts technique…felting, rug hooking, wool appliqué…it can be turned into a pillow, or finished off as a wall hanging or centerpiece. Kindred Spirits was formed in 1986 when the two friends began publishing patterns and books featuring embellished clothing, primitive stitcheries, whimsical dolls, quilts and other folk art pieces designed with a charmingly "naive" look. Their designs have been featured in numerous national publications and the company enjoys the reputation of being unique and original.  This one-day workshop is offered at $115 (includes teacher fees, lunch, and complete class kit).

July 26….Gyleen Fitzgerald
Gyleen is an experienced teacher/lecturer, and will be traveling here from the Baltimore, MD area.  Her quilts blend color, pattern and texture to provide a contemporary essence to traditional quilting. Her written works center around Haiku poems, quilt patterns and magazine articles and of course the crème de la crème, books. You can see her published work in Quilt Magazine, Patchwork Quilting and Quilter's Almanac magazines.  Gyleen will be presenting her "Going in Circles" workshop.  Very similar to the Drunkard's Path with an extra curve.  Learn two techniques to achieve perfect "stress-free" curves without piecing. Experiment with different layouts to produce a unique design. Your finished wall hanging (25" x 25") uses 16 fabrics from 4 color groups.  Workshop fee is $65.00 and includes teacher fees and lunch.  Cost of the quilt kit for class will be announced soon.  (www.colourfulstitches.com)

OPEN CRAFT NIGHTS
continue on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month.  We have such a great time, and hope you’ll join us!  We ask that you call by 4:00 to let us know if you will be attending…with weather and health conditions fluctuating so much, especially in the winter, we need to be able to communicate any changes or cancellations with you.  We’d feel lousy if you showed up to an empty and locked building.  We start promptly at 6pm!  See you there!

 “BUILD A STASH” WOOL PROGRAM
We keep hearing the same thing…”we can’t find wool where we live”!!!   We decided to put a program together to start getting our gorgeous hand-dyed wools out to YOU!   It’s simple.  All we need from you is an address and a credit card.  Each month, we will send out a bundle of wool….you choose Level 1 or 2.  Level 1:  6 Fat Eighths for $35.00   Level 2: 5 Long Quarters for $55.00.  Some months will be a handful of blues, the next might be a mixture of seasonal colors, etc.    We’ll be checking around for the least expensive shipping method, so when you call or email to sign up, we will have that figure for you.  We are requiring the credit card so we can have a smooth process:  dye the wool, package it up, mail it out.  Join the fun today, and start building that stash of wool for all of your quilting and appliqué projects.
